Light
The purpose of this project is to explore how a building can function using natural light and innovative solutions to let light in. A conceptual solution we found was light can be controlled using different methods like backlighting, reflector shields, and light cannons. The idea is better applied using curved surfaces. This building is placed on the Farmingdale State College campus and is constructed as a non-symmetrical Chapel. This chapel will include the Main Sanctuary for 50 people, a Memorial Chapel, and a Meditation Chapel, which all use natural light. Hopefully, the spirituality of each Chapel space will allow students to worship and reflect on their life choices.

Site Selection
I decided on this location because it had large parking spaces for students and was closer to the entry point of the campus. The Location is not surrounded by buildings except for the one building across its entry. This advantage allows sunlight to be not blocked from either side of the chapel by budlings. Each chapel is positioned to the southern light or the northern light to collect direct sunlight.

Past Precedents
Frank Lloyd Wright used pillars and recessed windows to allow light to come in based on his concept I made different shaped pillars and windows. My design also includes Frank Lloyd Wright pocket holes type light cannon however I changed the placing of them by putting them on the outside /inside of the exterior walls and on the ceilings. Frank Lloyd Wright had light reflectors to control the amount of light entering a certain space. I used this method for the lighting of my chapel.
