Contextual Fit
The Smith House was designed by Richard Meier in 1965 and is on the shore of Long Island Sound. Now Smith family is looking to add an addition to their house. With the objective of keeping the integrity of the original design, but also allowing the new addition to have its own presence. The new addition can be created by inspecting the existing systems of the original structure along with its respected location and landscape.
Narrative
Mr. Jeff Winger is a painter and loves to work out. To better express his life’s passion, he likes to display his artworks and he brought the smith house to further his work. As a painter, he wanted to showcase his artwork to his friends and entertain the kids. He requested that the new addition must in some way capture the scenery to amaze the guest when they come in. The new space should have a parapet roof and a master bedroom with a master bathroom for the guest. Also, there should be a clear separation between public and private spaces. He also stated that his new extension should follow the patterns of the original house. And the key factor for this project is connecting with his passion as a painter and keeping the original pattern so that it won’t look different from the original. That is everything my client wants.
Meta-Narrative
In the end, the house would have larger areas with new given functions, and it will maintain the same branch circulation. Each induvial space will be easily accessible with the given circulation. And those spaces will have some connections to the interests of the painter. The main goal should be public interaction and keeping a consistent pattern.
