Form & Function

Awareness of Truth and Beauty in Architectural Design

One of the leading essential relationships in architecture is between form and function. Like architect Claude Perrault once said, “positive beauty plays a normative role of standardization and perfection in design, typically expressed through the classical rules and language of architecture”. Anything that moves as a shape of its own based on its function. While trying to comprehend the concepts we unified moving components into bridges of our choosing. And discovered how the new function changed the structure and improve the existing structure.

Movement Analogies

The illustrations of these bridges can help us generate a unique movement/function for each of them. With the additive intent to allow a 30'x40' opening for boats or other vehicles.

For the movement of this suspension bridge, I made a device that will lift the roadbed to make way for the boats. Along with rollers which pulls a pole that is hooked up to the mechanism, therefore, making in the move (function). And this keeps the law of form and function.
